Mobile Aquatics Team

Help the Y bring swim lessons to your community. Unguarded residential and apartment pools are the most common places for children to drown. The YMCA of South Florida Mobile Aquatics Team and Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital have teamed up to provide free swimming lessons at apartment complexes around South Florida.

Why are swimming skills so important?

  • Florida’s drowning death rate among children ages 1-4 is the highest in the nation and also holds the second highest rate with children under the age of 14.
  • Residents under the age of 5 were most likely to drown in an unguarded swimming pool.
  • Residents ages 5-9 were most likely to drown in a natural/open body of water.
